SAVING NATURE

Saving nature is at the very heart of what we do. For so many years, some nature-loving people have made it their mission to find solutions that save the vast and amazing number of life on our planet by applying the best science available. We do not work with local communities, but we can help by creating awebsite where relevant information can be extracted.

However, our work is far from done. Humans are behind the present rate of species extinction, which is no less than 100 to 1,000 times greater than nature intended. There has been a stunning 60% reduction in the size of populations of mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians over the past four decades, according to certain studies and predictions. The impacts will reach far beyond the potential cultural loss of iconic species like tigers, rhinos, and whales.

The good news is we’ve also seen what’s working. Some peoplehave been part of successful wildlife recovery stories of a number of endangered species across the globe and this, consequently, helps in protecting rich and diverse ecosystems while also ensuring people never cease to benefit from nature. This much is clear: we can ill-afford to fail in our mission to save a living, rich planet.

SAVING A PLANET FULL OF LIFE

Weencourage people toprotect wildlife for many reasons. It is a source of inspiration. It nurtures a sense of wonder. It is integral to the balance of nature. In our work, WWF focuses on saving populations of the most ecologically, economically, and culturally important species in the wild. Ultimately, by protecting species, we save this beautiful, vulnerable, and the utterly irreplaceable planet we call home.

BRYDE’S WHALE

MUST NOT GO INTO EXTINCTION

Our aim is to double the Bryde’s whale population in the next few years – there are just 100 to 200 of them left. Bryde’s Whales are one of the most endangered species and we are devoted to protecting them from extinction. Concerned people are working with world leaders to take action, focusing conservation efforts in key sites, raising funds to permanently protect landscapes, and supporting community-based conservation. Saving these animals is about more than restoring a single species. As large predators, the Bryde’s whales play an important role in maintaining a healthy ecosystem. Every time we protect them, we maintain a balance in the interaction among species in their ecosystem.

People must be encouraged to protect Wildlife

We can’t achieve this alone. Hunting of animals – especially the endangered ones –for sports, and other purposes should be strictly prohibited. People should be educated on the importance of having wildlife, and its effect on the balance of the ecosystem. Wildlife must be protected by any means possible.

Why is it important to save

WILDLIFE?

There are several human activities that endanger wildlife – deforestation, logging, hunting of animals, and lots more. There are reasons why these activities should be prohibited. The presence of wildlife promotes pollination and ensures the continuity of native plant species. Small animals, such as bees, insects, birds, and butterflies all contribute to food production as they aid pollination.

Even though plants are the main source of medication, there are some animals that have attributes that are important in producing medications. A cobra venom, for example, has been known to cure leprosy. Lobsters are used often as antifungals.

Watching animals in their natural habitat or zoos is both relaxing and fun. People often go to zoos, oceans, parks, mountain, and forests just to enjoy the fascination of watching how these animals behave.
